Embrace High Fashion! Between the exclamation point top and the star glasses I am seeing a new fashion trend
Clara’s secretly a !star! but she doesn’t know it yet 😉
Well, I was right about the sarcasm. Got the words ALL wrong though.
Biology fun facts: there are three different biological ways to see better in low light:
– change the proportion of photoreceptors to have more rods and less cones. Upside: improved low-light vision; downside: reduced color vision. With 100% rods, you basically see in shades of gray only.
– put a mirror behind the retina (tapetum lucidum, “lucid carpet”, that cats, dogs, horses, and actually most mammals other than primates have) so that each photon gets to stimulate your photoreceptors twice. Upside: the world is twice as bright. Downside: the world is also a bit blurry.
– build the eye the “right” way, with the nerves sticking out behind the photoreceptors instead of in front of it, like cephalopod eyes. Upside: in addition to better light reception, you also lose the blind spot caused by all the “cables” bunching up to go behind the eye. Downside: due to not having glial cells in front of the photoreceptors, your color vision will be even more flooded by blue light, so you lose on daytime color perception, as the world would look to be monochromatic blue. Dabadee dabadi.
I feel like I’ve learnt something today! :0
Little point really, but since this is set in the UK and all border movement has stopped – shouldn’t they be driving on the left, wheel on the right?
