I mean, he’s totally right about that, and honestly I 100% agree that Nath doesn’t belong here. He’s meant for better things. But that’s no excuse for how his dad treated him all these years… Not to mention that he still managed to be mean about it.
And besides, for someone with so much heart, Nath’s no slouch at this stuff. He seems to have good ideas, a good work ethic, and good leadership qualities. And he did smash a bottle over a guy’s head, which probably killed him.
Hits a little close to home. I grew up with my dad constantly badgering me, “Soft in the heart, soft in the head”. It was years before I realized that empathy was NOT a character flaw.
I’m sorry you had to go through that, it sounds like it was rough. I find empathy to be such a strong positive trait in individuals, and it’s a shame that others see that as a flaw in life… and it’s definitely something that Nathaniel will have to face up against in this story.
